Heuer Monaco Reference Time Line
The Heuer Monaco was launched at a time of change in the watch world, design was becoming "funkier" for want of a better word, and the chronographs of the 1970s, were much bigger and louder than what had gone before. It was designed to be equally at home at the race track or at a cocktail event and when Jack Heuer secured Steve McQueen to model a 1133b in the Le Mans film its future in todays collectors market was firmly set.
The Monaco is the epitome of fashionable 1970s trend, and the fact that TAG Heuer still make re-editions today is testament to the fact that the design was very much ahead of its time! The vintage Heuer Monaco was introduced in the spring of 1969 when the "Chronomatic" models were launched to the world. Although it was a relatively small series of chronographs compared to the Autavia and Carrera, it was a major design departure!
